Google Play's promo video rules
- Hosted on YouTube; you paste a video URL into the store listing. Play does not accept file uploads.
- Visibility public or unlisted — not private.
- No ads on the video (monetisation off), and not age-restricted.
- Landscape 16:9 is displayed best; the feature graphic becomes the poster frame with a play button in the centre.
- Recommended length 30 seconds to 2 minutes; the first few seconds should show the app, not a logo animation.
- It is store metadata: the same policy against misleading content, unsubstantiated claims and competitor references applies to what the video shows and says.
What the video should show
One flow, start to finish, from real screenshots of the installed app: open from the icon → the main screen → the core action → the result. For a shop: browse, add to cart, checkout confirmation. For a publication: home, article, notification arriving. Three to five screenshots with captions carrying the benefit; the animation is decoration. Reviewers watch it; a video showing a browser bar or a feature the app doesn't have is a metadata finding.
Export settings
| Destination | Aspect | Export | Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Play promo (via YouTube) | 16:9 | WebM 1080p → upload; convert to MP4 if YouTube rejects | 30–60 s |
| Website hero loop | 9:16 or 1:1 | WebM (small) or GIF (universal, heavy) | 6–10 s |
| Stories / Reels | 9:16 | WebM → MP4 | ≤15 s |
| X / LinkedIn | 16:9 or 1:1 | WebM → MP4 | 10–30 s |
Video export uses your browser's MediaRecorder (Chrome, Edge, Firefox; Safari partial). GIF export loads gif.js on demand. Rendering is local; long 4K exports depend on your machine.
Music
Use tracks you have rights to. YouTube's Content ID will flag copyrighted music and can mute the video or attach ads — which then breaks Play's no-ads rule. The tool's bundled tracks are royalty-free; custom uploads are your responsibility.
