What the feature graphic is
The wide banner at the top of a Google Play listing. The Play Console requires one to complete the store listing, but it is displayed only when your listing has a promo video — it becomes the video's poster, with a play button overlaid in the centre — and in some editorial and search placements. Without a video, most users never see it; you still have to upload it.
Specification
- 1024 × 500 px, exactly.
- JPEG or 24-bit PNG — no transparency. The tool exports a flattened PNG.
- Play scales it and may crop the left and right edges on narrow displays. Keep everything important inside roughly the central 80% horizontally.
- A play button is drawn over the centre when a video is present. Do not put your headline there — the tool's default text positions avoid it.
- Don't reproduce the app icon at large size; the listing shows the icon right below. A small icon plus a benefit line works.
Text rules (the metadata policy applies here too)
Google treats text in the feature graphic as store metadata. That means no:
- Ranking or performance claims: "#1", "best", "top-rated", "million downloads"
- Award or "Editors' Choice" badges you cannot substantiate, or any Google Play badge inside the graphic
- Pricing or promotions that can go stale ("50% off this week")
- Calls to action such as "Download now" — redundant on a store page and flagged as spammy
- Competitor names
What works: the app name or a short benefit — "Order ahead. Skip the queue." — in a legible weight over a brand gradient.
Colour and legibility
Pull two brand colours from your logo with the palette extractor for the gradient, and check that white (or dark) text is legible across the whole span, including the lighter end. Play shows the graphic at roughly 350 px wide on phones — if the headline is not readable at that size, it is too small or too long.
